I hope we all learn something about comparison trap in my topic today.
I am standing in my lofty chair as if I’m not guilty of this but I write as a reminder also to keep myself learning and improving.
We all compare our spouse some times and it might not be a bad thing to do. When you compare your spouse or other peoples marriage to learn from, it is still acceptable.
What becomes unacceptable is when we swerve and begin to compare and prefer other peoples spouse to our God given spouse. Maybe you see certain qualities that you admire in the other spouse.
The safe zone is when you only admire but don’t desire. It is a thin line when you begin to move into the realm of being covetous.
Covetousness is a sin.
Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, …
Covetousness is a strong yearning to possess something that belongs to another.
You fall into the comparison trap, when you begin to desire the qualities another husband or wife possess. This opens the door to the devil because the devil will not stop at just admiring the qualities, you will begin to admire the owner of the qualities too.
Another danger of comparison trap is that you may begin to despise your spouse in your heart just like David’s wife did when David danced before the Lord.
Comparing our spouse will eventually lead to not being grateful to God for the qualities that your spouse possess.
The truth is that, he/she may not have all the qualities the people you admire have, but he/she has certain qualities that make them unique.
Concentrate on those and be grateful to God. God gave you just the right man/ woman your destiny requires. With those qualities, you are on your way to making your mark in this life.
You can help your self against comparison trap by consciously telling yourself God is a good God and that He gave you the best man or woman.
You can also rehearse it a lot of time in your heart all the good qualities your spouse has.
Remember, all the good qualities. Remember roses have thorns but the scent they give is always unique. Be careful of the thorns and handle them with care.
You may also want to place your spouse picture on your phone, at the office, in your room etc just to show you are crazy about them.
God bless your marriage.
