I always admire a particular couple in my church. Oh my! They look absolutely lovely together. Seeing them during the Sunday and weekly services is such an absolute delight.
This is not the case of a couple faking it or just giving a “make believe” impression. This pure joy on their faces radiates from the inside, it’s so glaring.
I wanted to know what they are doing different. I desired to find out what makes their marriage unique and I found out eventually.
This particular couple have a common interest which offers them the opportunity to spend more time together.
And guess what? Spending time together breeds togetherness in marriage which in turn makes up a close partnership.
As different sexes, male and female, we have our different interests and desires and which is what we spend our free times doing.
However, to have more fun in marriage and to have the kind of marriage we truly desire, it is essential for couples to have common interests, common passions, common projects to work on.
Your passions and interests do not have to be the same thing but there has to be a common ground.
Talk with your partner, share your likes and interests together until you eventually see one that can bring you both together.
So, just like you both are married to each other, also marry your passions and interests together too.
With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; (Ephesians 4:2 KJV)
Does the husband have passions for evangelism and the wife loves to teach teenagers? Why not marry both together! Go on evangelism to areas where the teenage population is concentrated and minister there.
It could be the simple things too. If he likes to drive and she likes to travel, that’s a perfect combination. Go on road trips together.
If he likes to play indoor games and she likes to stay indoors, spend time playing those games together.
If he likes to interact with people and she is very hospitable. Perfect! Marry both together.
Your marriage will be another “couple goals” if you can make conscious efforts to fuel, nurture your passions and spend more time together.
