Money is one of the most important issues to deal with in marriage. It could be a tremendous blessing and it could be a source of great tension in marriage.
Most of our frustration is because we lack the proper perspective of money. We want to dominate the money in our marriage because we feel our own perspective or the way we see money is better than that of our spouse.
Because we are different, essentially, we will see money differently. The point is that neither you nor your spouse is right or wrong. You are just different that’s all.
You might see money from the security perspective, that is money is meant to create security. When you see money that way, you want to save. You want to buy a house, invest in the future, put some money aside for the rainy day. You are a spend thrift with great plannings.
Whereas, your spouse could love spending. He/she believes money is meant to be spent. You see money as a means of comfort so you spend to buy things you want, to make your life more pleasurably.
Luk 11:17 (KJV) But he, knowing their thoughts, said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and a house [divided] against a house falleth.
You cannot afford to disagree on money matters. Every point of disagreement is opening the door for the devil. Don’t allow him.
You don’t have to reject each other if we have different perspective about money. We just need to communicate more, make plans, create boundaries within which you both agree to spend and let both of you agree on what to buy, when and how.
Avoid debt. Don’t live above your income. Make sure you save and give the God. One of the most important things about your money is learning to give to God.
Honor God in your tithes, offerings, kingdom projects and learn to give to your mentors.
Let God control your finances. Let Him be Lord of your finances and He will bring you great blessings beyond what your labour or sweat can produce.
Another point of disagreement in marriage is not having the same vision. Discuss money and arrive at a vision, what you want to achieve with your money
Pro 29:18 (KJV) Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.
Let your money be a source of blessing not a source of tension in your marriage
God bless your marriage.
