How To Handle Subtle Temptations

How To Handle Subtle Temptations

The Cooperate and academic worlds can be likened to Lagos state, a South western state in Nigeria, characterized by a busy economy, and an extremely large population.

One can get lost in the hustle and bustle, the usual ‘conductor trouble’, who unnecessary bullies you at every point in time and so many other issues.

In place of Lagos conductors, you have bosses, lecturers and senior colleagues who taunt you at the slightest opportunity.

As believers in the academic and corporate world, one would think it’s all about books and work, respectively, but when eccentric behaviors are displayed and inordinate desires are shown by lecturers and bosses at work, how do we cope?

Ladies are mostly on the receiving end of this, even though the brothers have their own share as well.

How do we react when people old enough to be our parents, make perverted overtures? Most of us will naturally lash out, succumb to the pressures or just give up and fail until something happens.

Whether we like it or not, we might experience a randy boss or a perverted lecturer, and under the flames of not wanting a carry over, an extra year, delayed salary, denied promotion and job insecurity, we allow ourselves to be put under pressure and do one of the already mentioned reactions.

Guess what? Jesus worked this path as well. This type of pressure came. They always tried to rope him in or do something to tick him off and his response was epic.

At some point, he had to verbally put them in their place and some other point, he either kept silent or walked away.

James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

There is a reason that these things happen and as a believer, God wants to teach you something or bring out something from less favorable situations you find your self in.

At every test and trial, he wants to establish you or bring out his glory in such situations. Joseph experienced such with his boss wife.

Phil 4:6-7 (NIV)
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

When faced with these pressures, be firm in refusing such overtures, then run to God in prayers. He will give you wisdom on the actions to take after which the glory that God wants to bring out through you, will now shine.

Romans 8:28 (KJV)
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

In the case of Joseph, when that woman came for him, he fled. He didn’t do this in a porch manner, his clothes were in her hands and he ran out like a mad man.

The bible also, tells us what to do, it says to flee from all appearance of evil. These things come in a subtle way and really most times, it’s not direct but we recognize whatever code is used. Fleeing is not a sophisticated action because you have to know when to be calm and when to switch, letting whoever know your take on what they are offering. It could be difficult but God’s wisdom is always available to guide.

In the end, you are assured of God’s feelings to you because our God has a plan and all we have to do is to align ourselves to it.

God’s peace will garrison and mount guard over my heart.

I resist the devil in Jesus name

In any situation, God’s wisdom will guide my every step.

I will cast all my cares on God
