End of the year Fasting and Prayers have begun. Go HERE for more details.
I have found people throw this line around a lot “men are visually oriented”. This statement may sound cliche, but it’s eerily true, why do I say so? Let’s take a cue from the David and Bathsheba’s story here:
One late afternoon, David got up from taking his nap and was strolling on the roof of the palace. From his vantage point on the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was stunningly beautiful. David sent to ask about her, and was told, “Isn’t this Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam and wife of Uriah the Hittite?” David sent his agents to get her. After she arrived, he went to bed with her. 2 Samuel 11: 2-4 (MSG)
We see here that it was the naked body of a beautiful woman that David saw that caused him to lose his balance and fell into sin.
For a woman, a naked body of a man may not appeal much to their senses unless they’re emotionally connected to the man.
From the story, we could deduct that men are highly visual and if men are, it’s extremely important for us as ladies to pay extra attention to what we wear, because the truth is, it’s not until you’re stark naked before a man loses his balance.
Our dressing at times which leaves nothing to imagination can also make a fellow brother fall.
Our appearance they say is the first thing people notice about us when they see us, hence, it’s essential to make ‘modesty’ our watchword when it comes to what we put on so as not to serve as a stumbling block to others.
But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumbling block to them that are weak. 1 Corinthians 8: 9 (KJV)
There’s this quick check I normally do before I step out of the door in the morning which I’m sure we ladies will find very helpful too. Before you step out in the morning look at yourself fully in the mirror and ask yourself these quick questions:
• Does my dressing glorify God?
• Do I look presentable?
• Will it not cause a fellow brother to fall?
If you feel a pang of guilt to any of the three, that’s a cue to go back to your wardrobe and change.
What glorifies God will not reveal your nakedness in any form be it in wearing tightly clad clothes that leaves nothing to imagination or revealing of flesh that’s expected to be covered. Certainly, what glorifies God will never cause your fellow brother to fall into sin also.
Remember that, spirituality doesn’t connote that we be lackadaisical about our dressing. No man wants to marry an old maid. You can be spiritual and still be fashionable, okay? ‘Modesty’ should just be the watchword here.
Don’t wear what will cause a fellow brother to fall or see you and be imagining vain things. Learn to cover up!
Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend. 1 Corinthians 8: 13 (KJV)
Listen, the Holy Spirit in you will never be comfortable with you opening up your cleavage all about. The Holy Spirit in you will never be comfortable with you wearing clothes that leaves nothing to imagination. Cover up!
You can be spiritual and still know how to dress smartly. It’s all about knowing what suits your body type and wearing them modestly, but don’t because of all in the name of “that’s what’s in vogue” and be wearing clothes that dishonours God all about. You can’t be claiming spiritual and still be leading others away from Christ with your dressing.
Am I saying you shouldn’t follow the latest trends here? Not at all ma, just make sure whatever you do decide to put on, irrespective of what’s in vogue, glorifies God at all times.
Always remember that you’re an ‘example’ to other believers not by what you say or do alone, but by what you wear also so we must always strive to glorify God in our dressing at all times so as not to serve as a stumbling block to others.
