Little Gestures Often Ignored In Marriage

Little Gestures Often Ignored In Marriage

“Tola, I’m out”, Tomiwa said as he slammed the door and strutted out of the house. This has been a regular occurrence in their home of late. Tomiwa, Tola’s husband hardly spends time with her and the children. The only time she has a chance to see her husband is during dinner after which he dashes out again.

Kinsley and Caro, his wife are one busy couple. They individually leave home daily for work very early and return quite late in the evening. Hardly have they any meaningful conversation, they both get busy with their phones until they doze off and the routine continues the next day.

A lot of couples are so close yet very far apart because of busyness and negligence which has taken over a lot of family lives. As much as couples have to bring food to the table and by so doing hardworking, their must be a balance. The home front must not bear the brunt of our super busy lives.

What are some ways by which couples can further strengthen their bond?

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump. (Galatians 5:9 KJV)

1. Praying together.
A lot of married people hardly ever have time to hold hands and pray together. Many of us are guilty of this.
Praying together as a couple is one of the strongest bond that promotes unity in the family and unity is very powerful.

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. (Matthew 18:20 KJV)

Praying together encourages spending time together and this will make partners see their differences in another light.
It may look awkward at the beginning but be rest assured that you will find it rather comforting if you will follow through consistently.

2. Jeru trip.
Jeru trip with one’s spouse is not a sin. Having the mind that jeru trip is a shameful or dirty thing to do in marriage contradicts what the Bible teaches.

Honor marriage, and guard the sacredness of sexual intimacy between wife and husband. (Hebrews 13:4a MSG)

Honour means placing importance or value on a particular thing, something highly esteemed and jeru trip is indeed honourable in marriage.
Sexual intimacy is a breeding ground for a stronger marital bond and this should not be underestimated.

3. Spending quality time.
Everyone loves a quality conversation and time with his loved ones and this is true too within the confines of marriage. Nothing replaces a quality and concentrated time with one’s spouse.

Aside the fact that it provides succour when one partner is down, spending time together brings connection among couples.
You remember those times while you were dating and all you thought about was how to be with your significant other? Let that continue in marriage. Make your time apart is a time of longing to be together again. Have something to look forward to whenever you are going home to meet your wife.

Send lovely text messages and WhatsApp chats while you are apart, it is not only when you need to send the list of groceries that you have to chat. Even if it is just to ask your partner to get some items for you while coming home, you can make that loving.
Be unapologetically romantic.
