The Benefits of Waiting Through The Waiting Season

The waiting process is usually very tedious. It’s not the time to sit around and do nothing.

Remember the parable of the talent? The one who was given one talent did absolutely nothing. He buried it and waited for his master to arrive.

God, like the master in that parable, expects us to get to work while we wait for our job, marriage partner, contract and so many other things we are trusting Him for.

One of the things God expects us to work on is our character. While we are waiting for our God-given spouse, God really wants us to work on our shortcomings.

Many people have the notion that their spouse is supposed to accept them the way they are; bags and baggage clutter.

Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things, there is no law.”

Above is a comprehensive list of what God expects us to have. Your period of waiting is the time to acquire all this if you don’t have them or build on them if God has started work in your life.

Someone might be wondering how waiting correlates with building character.

Romans 5:4-5 ESV
And endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

Shame is when you are on your fourth relationship and it’s still not working out.
You need to allow endurance produce character in you, it’s worth more than all the heartache experience you get from moving from one relationship to another.

David never wasted his waiting period, the Bible says in

1 Samuel 18:14;
And David behaved himself wisely in all his ways, and the LORD was with him.

God was with him because he didn’t neglect the process he had to go through while he was waiting.

I ask you this morning; is God with you in that relationship? If your answer is no, then you know you didn’t graduate from the school of waiting.

Another important thing we should learn to do while waiting is getting to work. Young people are so relaxed, forgetting that the age thirty is just a few years away. Get to work, only God knows if that’s where you will find your spouse.

David had prepared himself to face Goliath while he was watching his father’s sheep. That was his first platform, his announcement to Israel.
Even Joseph, while he was in prison, worked on his gift so when the chance came to interpret the king’s dream, it didn’t catch him unaware. He was prepared for that day.

Peradventure God answers your prayer and you get married this year, what’s your plan on sustaining your marriage? You see why God hasn’t answered your prayer.

Wisdom is the principal thing, the Bible says to get wisdom. May God help us all.

My time of waiting will not be time wasted.

Lord in my time of waiting help me grow more in you.

My time of waiting will help build my character in which I will always be ready.

I will wait with grace and purpose.

Isaiah 40:31
