The Loving Father And His Son

The Loving Father And His Son

One popular thing that characterized Jesus’ teachings was his use of illustrations so that people can relate practically to his teachings. We’ll be looking at a popular one this morning, but I’ll be paraphrasing.

For the kingdom of God is like a father who had us as sons, and one day we walked up to him and said “Dad, I don’t know how to tell you this but I want to get into the world, far away from you…”

Daddy was speechless, sweat appeared on his forehead and palms, but oblivious to these, we continued “and I want to go with everything that belongs to me, and erm… including the stuffs that would have been mine when you died.”

Dad looked pensive, age was actually catching up with him, no harm if the old man hands over our inheritance now…

”it’s alright”
“Sir?… you say..”
“Have it” with that dad turned away towards the orchard, probably to hide his tears.

So, we took all that belonged to us and would still have been ours…quite later.

We lied, bribed, got involved with banned substances, broke the law, we used our inherited emotional desires long before dad’s intended date, we squandered it all.

Then one morning we discovered we were spent. Surprisingly, all that we thought would outlive us was already gone, so we skipped town, switched jobs till we got so famished we had to settle for worthless food.

That was our dead end.
The defining moment when we acknowledged that we had fallen so down the drain. We acknowledged that dad was right, he always had been.

This point or somewhere along that journey is where many are. We’ve done the extremes, at great risk to our bodies, our purposes and future.

We’ve eaten the forbidden fruit, which stood right next to the tree of life, the most nutritious of them all.

Revelation 22:2
In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month:  and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

So, what do we do? now that we recognize that we’ve missed it, that God was always right, that the end of this our lane is destruction.

Do we look for anti-depression pills, for mentally lifting encouragements and motivations? Or, do we go back home, home to daddy, back home to God.

Yes, Jesus came to restore us back to everything we have lost.
Health, freedom, His gifts and most importantly, His forgiveness. Salvation.

If you’ve gone far, there’s only one place to go- home, where He’s waiting for you with his arms wide open.

I pray God grants us more understanding.

I won’t rush ahead of God’s timing and plans for my life.

Lord Jesus, help me to always follow you.

And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. ( Luke 15:20 KJV)
